When Hunter Metzger placed an online order at Texas Roadhouse in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, he added a heartbreaking note: it was his beloved Great Dane Iris’s last meal. The 8-year-old pup had been diagnosed with an untreatable tumor, and her family wanted her to go out with dignity and love.
He requested a New York strip steak, mashed potatoes, fries, and bread—her final feast—and asked the staff to “prepare with love.” What he got in return blew him away.
Kitchen manager Kate Weston and her team went above and beyond, preparing the meal with care, writing “Made with LOVE” on the to-go box, and even hand-delivering it with condolences. The next day, Metzger discovered they had refunded the entire meal.
He later shared the story online, where it quickly went viral as a reminder that even a small act of kindness can mean the world. Metzger returned to Texas Roadhouse for his birthday—this time to thank the staff in person.
As Weston put it: “The world feels like such an ugly place right now… but showing love and compassion can make a really bad day into something amazing.”
