Rowan Atkinson and make-up artist Sunetra Sastry’s infrequently seen daughter, Lily Sastry, recently spoke about her parents’ divorce and how it affected her throughout her twenties.
“I went through so much chaos and loneliness in my twenties,” she wrote in a social media post, per Hello! “Now I am [almost] 30, I can see clearly where I was at and what was happening inside me during the darkest days.”
“I was so lost, and only really started to feel vaguely normal in my late twenties,” she added. “I have always been trapped between worlds; I do not belong here, but also don’t belong there.”
Sastry, 29, noted that she struggled to find her identity in the midst of having “no friends” and “a broken family”. Art was her “guiding light” and made “all the suffering worth it”, she wrote.

Sastry has pursued a creative career, like her parents. She is a singer-songwriter, cabaret performer and artist, per People magazine.
“I had always been a writer, but I was about 14, 15 when I really started writing music,” she wrote on portal My Theatre Mates in 2016. “I just loved writing stories and poems, coming up with melodies; I was always challenging myself. Of course, already being a singer and performer, I worked out pretty quickly what I wanted to do.”
She has described her musical style as “R&B, soul, pop, with a bit of funk”.
On Instagram she shares photos of her artworks, which use “figurative and surrealist imagery” to “reveal the truth behind how human behaviour manifests differently in men and women”, according to one post.

In 2017, it was revealed that Lily had decided to drop the surname Atkinson and instead use her mother’s name, Sastry. It’s unclear why she made the move, but many suspect it was because of her dad’s decision to leave his wife of almost 26 years for a younger woman – though Lily has never publicly confirmed this
However, she has used her father’s last name in the hashtag #lilyatkinson on some of her images on social media, as noted by People magazine.

Atkinson has been dating Louise Ford, 42 and 28 years his junior, since 2015. According to the Daily Mail, Ford had previously dated comedian James Acaster, who only found out about her new relationship when he read about it in a newspaper.
“I got left for Mr Bean,” Acaster reportedly joked during one of his stand-up routines in 2019. “I found out a year after we split up. I opened the newspaper and there was a full-page story. No one else in the history of time has ever been left for Mr Bean.”
